Description
9 The Wych is a cottage, now a house, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of roughcast and rubble with a Welsh slate roof that has a gable on the left side. The building features a central rubble stack with a brick chimney and a brick end stack on the right.
The exterior is two storeys high and has two window ranges. On the gable side, there is an 18th-century three-light casement window, while to the right is a 19th-century two-light casement. The entrance to the left, which leads to No. 9, has a late 19th-century part-glazed panelled door set in a moulded case, topped by a simple pediment hood. There is also an 18th-century three-light casement and a 19th-century two-light casement under a brick segmental arch, along with an early 20th-century part-glazed door beneath another simple pediment hood.
To the right, there is a single-storey wing made of rubble with a stone tile roof, which includes a late 19th-century plank door, a 19th-century two-light casement, and a 20th-century garage door. The left side of the building has a 20th-century two-light metal casement window in an altered opening. At the rear, the wing features an 18th-century three-light casement under a brick segmental arch, two 20th-century two-light casements, a 20th-century stack, and a lean-to with a stone tile roof.
The interior has not been inspected. The cottage is designated at Grade II because it is a well-preserved example of an 18th-century cottage and represents the vernacular style using local materials.
