Description

Moorcourt Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating back to the 14th or 15th century, originally a hall house with cross-wings added in the 17th century. It was altered in the late 19th century and further modified in the 20th century. The original timber-framed core is largely refaced with brick and modern timbering, with later brick additions, and has a 20th-century tiled roof.

The main range consists of three bays aligned south-east/north-east, with projecting cross-wings on either side. These have been extended to the north-east and north-west. The farmhouse has axial and lateral chimney stacks. It’s two stories high, with a raised roof to the hall range.

The north-west front features a 3-light 20th-century casement window on both floors to the left of a gabled porch with a ledged door. The gable end of the northern cross-wing has decorative, although largely replaced, diagonal timber framing and two 2-light 20th-century casement windows on the first floor, with a single-light and a 2-light casement window below. A blank wall of the hall range is to the right with a doorway and a 20th-century glazed door to the right of the cross-wing. A blank brick gable end defines the second cross-wing on the far right.

Inside the hall range, three cruck trusses remain largely intact, including a central truss with open-arched bracing and moulded details.
