Description
The gate, gate piers, and adjacent walls are located about 20 yards east of the south aisle of the Church of St Cuthbert. They likely date from the late 17th century, with the walls being possibly later. The structure is made of wrought iron and sandstone rubble. The gate features rosettes within quatrefoils and scrolls near the bottom. Above the gate is an overthrow with the inscription "ADEO ET REGE" and an achievement resembling the Royal Arms combined with the Scudamore Arms, which was noted to be deteriorating during the last survey in June 1986. The adjacent piers are square in shape and adorned with scrolls and rosettes, topped with plumed hats. The walls are approximately five feet high and extend about five yards on either side of the piers. The gate and piers are likely associated with the grounds of Holme Lacy House.
