Description

A group of seven monuments is located about 10 to 20 yards south and south-west of the south porch of the Church of St Mary.

The first is a chest tomb for Elizabeth Cooke, who died in 1779. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features a flat capping with a raised central rectangular zone, corner pilasters with incised rectangular panels, and a raised inscription panel within a moulded rectangular margin.

Next is a chest tomb for Mary Morgan, who died in 1826. This tomb also uses sandstone ashlar and has a low hipped capping with moulded edges, fluted corner pilasters, and a rectangular margin for the inscription panel.

The third tomb is for Edward Morgan, who died in 1839. Made of sandstone ashlar, it has a low hipped capping with moulded edges, corner balusters, and advanced side panels with moulded margins and quadrant corners that feature fan motifs. This tomb is prominently situated on the approach to the south porch.

The fourth chest tomb is for Peter Morgan, who died in 1802, marked "H James Grosmount, FT". It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and has a hipped moulded capping, with curved end panels that each contain an incised circle and oval margins for the inscription panels.

The fifth tomb is for Ann Morgan, who died in 1833. This chest tomb is also made of sandstone ashlar and features hipped moulded capping, corner balusters, oval margins for the side inscription panels with fan motifs at the corners, and end panels that have paterae with incised oval insets.

The sixth chest tomb is for John Morgan, who died in 1798. It is made of sandstone ashlar and has hipped capping with moulded edges, curved end panels containing an incised circle, and oval margins for the side inscription panels.

Finally, the seventh tomb is for Sarah Morgan, who died in 1786. This chest tomb is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features hipped capping, fluted corner quarter columns, and plain rectangular inscription panels.
