Description

Lime Brook Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with parts rebuilt in the mid-18th century and restored in the late 20th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, featuring some original timber-framing with rendered infill. The roofs are covered with slate and plain tiles, and there is an original rendered ridge stack on the north wing, which has a recapped 17th-century brick shaft as well as a later brick shaft. An additional chimney stack is located at the south end of the main ridge. The main 18th-century range is aligned north/south and includes an original single-bay wing at the north end. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the framing of the north wing partly renewed.

On the east front elevation, the main range has two ground floor three-light windows and two first floor two-light windows, all featuring cambered heads. There is a central gabled 20th-century rubble porch with a six-panelled door that has a cambered head, along with single-light casements in the side elevations. The north wing includes a two-light window on both floors and a first floor single-light window, with an attic light at the south end. Additionally, there is a 20th-century lean-to addition at the north end, which has a door in its east elevation. The interior is said to contain a large fireplace in the original part of the house.
