Description

These shops and dwellings on High Street date from the 17th century, although they were significantly redesigned in the 18th century. The building is stuccoed with a Welsh slate roof featuring three gables facing the street. It is three storeys high, with a cellar, and has a three-window front. The later 18th-century additions include canted bays with 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sash windows, and 3/3 sash windows. These cantilevered sections each have a jetty supported by decorative figurehead consoles. The early 20th-century shop fronts have been updated, with No.8 featuring a central double door with glazed panels and a blocked overlight, supported by cast-iron brackets with a boarded soffit, flanked by plate-glass windows. To the right of the central door is a more recent entrance. A moulded hood with enriched modillions sits above the shop front. No.10 has a recessed glazed and panelled door and a canted plate-glass window with leaded clerestory lights, also topped by a similar hood supported by pilasters with moulded panels. The interior of the building was not inspected.
