Description
Little Dilwyn Farmhouse is probably late 16th and early 17th century, although it was refaced in the early 19th century, with alterations made in the 1980s. It is a timber-frame building with wattle-and-daub infill, now clad in brick, and has a low, hipped slate roof. The house is arranged in an H-shape, with a central block aligned north-east to south-west. There is a rear cross-wing to the north and a main cross-wing to the south, featuring a large brick stack at the junction of the wings and a lateral rubble stack to the central range.
The south-east front is two storeys high and has dentilled brick eaves. It contains five windows, which are glazing bar sashes with plastered, wedged lintels. Two narrow four-pane sashes were inserted around 1986, flanking the central window. The ground floor has two windows. A wooden, pilastered doorcase with a pediment frames the central entrance. The radially glazed fanlight sits above a six-panel door, recessed with panelled reveals. To the left-hand gable end of this range is a cellar, accessed through a massive 17th-century studded door with ornamental strap hinges.
Internally, the timber framing is exposed, showing chamfered and stopped spine beams with run-out stops. The wall frames appear to consist of three square panels stacked vertically.
