Description
14 South Street is a house that was later used as a library, which closed in 1993. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of brick with a hipped composite tile roof and a brick stack on the left rear. The building has three storeys and a cellar, featuring a five-window range with 6/6 sash windows that have a sill band and some old glass, as well as 3/3 sash windows with a sill band. The windows are topped with rusticated stucco lintels that include keyblocks.
The central entrance has a 20th-century eight-fielded-panel door with a plain fanlight, set beneath a modillioned stucco open-pediment hood. This hood features entablature blocks with triglyphs and is supported by attached Tuscan columns. On either side of the entrance are pairs of 6/1 sash windows under similar lintels.
At the rear, there are twin gable wings with hipped composite tile roofs and paired sash windows under segmental arches on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
