Description
This building is a barn and stables, located approximately 25 meters north-west of Great Blackhill Farmhouse. It dates from the 18th century, with an additional barn added in the early 19th century. The structure is made of sandstone rubble and features stone slate and part-corrugated metal roofs.
The barn has seven bays, with a central threshing floor. To the left of the threshing floor entrance, there are lean-to shelter sheds on the south-east front and at the rear. The bays to the right of the threshing floor have been converted into stabling. There are three-bay stables that adjoin to the north-east, along with a later three-bay barn further to the north-east.
The shelter sheds to the left are supported by circular piers, and many of the openings have been largely blocked. The two-storey stables to the right have five openings, and there is a partly blocked entrance at the right end of the later barn, which features loop vents. The building also has inclined strut trusses. It is included for its group value.
