Description
Eau Withington House, dating from the mid to late 18th century, is a red brick house featuring a hipped gambrel slate roof and end chimneys. The building has two storeys above a rubble cellar, with attics at the rear. It showcases a dentilled eaves cornice and three windows, which are four-pane 19th-century sashes set beneath brick flat arches. The central doorcase is adorned with plain pilasters and a moulded cornice that breaks forward over the pilasters. The entrance includes a half-glazed door, and above it is a Sun Fire insurance mark with the number 664965. In front of the house is a coursed and squared rubble terrace, which is accessed by a double flight of steps that align with the doorway. To the right of the steps is a segment-headed opening leading to a good quality cast iron terrace railing featuring anthemion and Catherine-wheel pattern panels between fleur-de-lis capped standards, with narrow trefoil-headed panels. There is also a link to the right hand side leading to a barn.
