Description
The Golden Post is a house that may date back to the 17th century or earlier, though it has been significantly altered and remodeled in the late 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted plaster infill panels and a tiled roof that resembles 18th-century style, hipped to the right side. There is a rubble stack at the southern end. The building likely originated as a hall and cross-wing type, with the cross-wing located at the northern end, suggested by the hipped return and arched brace effect in the northern bay. It has two storeys and three windows, which include unsympathetic 20th-century three-light casements and a large bow window on the ground floor to the right. A large gabled porch is positioned to the left of the center. The timber frame has been extensively patched but essentially consists of four panels from the cill to the wall-plate. Despite the alterations, this house has considerable historical interest, justifying its inclusion on the heritage list.
