Description
The monument located about 2 yards east of the north-east corner of the south transept of the Old Church of St John the Baptist is a Grade II listed pedestal tomb, likely dating from around 1800. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a deep base, which may cover a vault. The tomb is adorned with engaged fluted corner columns, a frieze, and a moulded cornice. Atop the structure is a low hipped capping with a central obelisk. Each face of the obelisk displays a quatrefoil and various key patterns along the bottom margin. An egg-finial, which likely includes the remains of an urn, rises above the obelisk on a metal stem. The inscriptions on the monument are currently illegible.
