Description
The Harper monument is a chest tomb located approximately 10 meters south-east of the chancel of the Church of St Giles in Goodrich. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of ashlar stone. The monument features a moulded plinth and raised capping, with tapering sides and plain fielded inscription panels. One of the inscriptions commemorates John Harper, who died at the age of 5 months in 1818. The inscription reads: "The cup of life just with his lips he prest/ Found the tast bitter and refused the rest/ Averse then turning from the face of day/ He softly sigh'd his little soul away."
