Description
Ford Farmhouse and the adjoining stable are located on Ford Street in Wigmore. The farmhouse dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill at the rear, some rubble walling, and roughcast on the front and sides, topped with a slate roof and a 19th-century brick stack on the front pitch. The structure likely consists of two framed bays oriented east to west, with an external rendered rubble chimney and a brick stack on the rear north elevation.
The building is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The rear elevation displays three panels from the sill to the wall-plate and short straight upper corner braces. The south front elevation has two ground floor 3-light casement windows, two gabled dormers with 2-light casements, and a skylight positioned between the dormers. The main entrance, located to the right of the center, features a 20th-century gabled half-glazed timber porch with a partly-glazed door inside. Old purlin ends are visible at the west end.
At the rear left, there is a large 20th-century lean-to addition. The adjoining stable, built in the 19th century, is constructed of rubble with a slate roof and consists of two bays and two levels. All openings in the stable have cambered brick heads, including a stable door at the rear and ground floor and loft openings at the east end.
