Description
This is a house, likely dating from the late 16th century with additions in the 17th century. It is constructed with timber framing on a stone plinth and has a slate roof. The house follows an H-shaped plan, with two storeys and an attic. The timber framing is primarily arranged in square panels. Most of the windows are 20th-century casements. A recessed central section of two bays features a door to the left of the second bay. The left-hand cross-wing is rendered on the ground floor and has one window, while the first floor has two. The gable truss of this wing has struts connecting the tie-beam and collar, and vertical struts above. The right-hand cross-wing is framed separately and uses lighter timbers to create smaller panels; the ground floor is windowless, while the first and attic floors have small windows, and its gable truss also features struts between the tie-beam and collar and vertical struts above. A stone chimney stack projects from the return wall of the left-hand cross-wing, and a large stack with two flues is visible on the rear wall of the main hall. The interior, which was only partially accessible during the survey, includes a cross-passage with remnants of original partition walls, and a hall with chamfered ceiling beams. A staircase, dating from the late 17th century, features a closed string and turned balusters.
