Description
Barn House is a house that likely dates back to the early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 17th century and early 19th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and has remnants of timber framing, topped with a slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout. The northern part of the house is a single storey with an attic, featuring an outshut against the north wall and two dormers above. There is a chimney with a projecting stack on the west gable. The south wing was raised to two storeys in the 19th century, and its south gable wall has one bay with windows that have glazing bar sashes and keyed lintels. A chimney is located on the east wall of the wing. Inside, the northern part of the house includes a wide fireplace with splayed jambs and remnants of timber framing. Some square panels are exposed in the north wall and in the partition wall that divides the two bays. The central truss features a tie-beam, two vertical struts, and a collar.
