Description

A farmhouse, likely dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, with a substantial 19th-century extension. The original part is timber-framed with plaster and brick infill, and sandstone rubble, while the extension is primarily brick. It has tiled roofs and brick stacks. The house is arranged in an 'L' shape, with the original section running roughly north/south and the later addition projecting eastwards from the south end. The east elevation has a 1:2 window arrangement, featuring 19th-century casement windows: one to the right of the gable front on each floor, and two to the left side of the original part. There’s an entrance beneath the windows in the gable and a small lean-to extension in front of the right-hand side. Attached to the farmhouse are hop rooms and a hop kiln, probably dating from the early 19th century with a later 19th-century addition. These are brick-built with slate roofs. The two-storey range has a hop kiln added to its north end, a steeply pitched roof with a gabled ventilator. The interior features timber tally stairs. The building is listed for its group value and was formerly known as Hoarhouse Farmhouse.
