Description
Callis Close is a house that was formerly divided into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is timber-framed with rendered infill, and part of it has been refaced with rendered rubble. It features a thatched roof beneath a corrugated metal covering, with a brick stack located at the west end of the ridge. The structure likely consists of four framed bays aligned east to west, and includes a large external brick chimney with offsets and a detached stack at the east end. The house is single storey with an attic.
The framing on the ends has three panels from the sill to the wall plate, while the sides have two panels with an additional smaller panel above where the eaves have been raised. At the east end, there is an exposed collar and tie-beam truss with two collars and a central strut below the lower collar. The south front elevation features five two-light metal casements, along with a 20th-century gabled timber porch and door at the western end. An attic light is present at the east end, and there is a lean-to addition with a cat-slide roof at the rear.
