Description
This barn, located about 40 yards north of Glebe Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century to early 18th century and has undergone some later alterations. It features a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber frame, primarily covered with weatherboarding and partly filled with brick. The roof is made of pantiles. The barn has a rectangular plan, oriented roughly east to west, consisting of 1 + 4 + 2 bays and two levels.
On the north elevation, there is a row of exposed brick-nogged framing above the plinth. To the left of center, there are ledged two-leaved wagon doors with a cambered head. To the right of these doors is a raking-top dormer, which has two small openings for a toilet beneath it. On the extreme left, there is a ledged door leading to the upper level.
Inside, the barn features raking strut trusses and cambered tie-beams. The westernmost bay contains a cider press that has a timber base for the "cheese," rather than the more common stone base. The barn also includes the usual drainage gullies. It is included for its group value.
