Description

The Bethell Monument is a pedestal tomb located about one yard east of the chancel of the Church of St Andrew. It dates from 1766 and 1776 and is made of sandstone ashlar. The monument has a triangular plan with a moulded base and a slightly hipped capping over a moulded cornice. The oval side panels feature inscriptions, each topped with a central rosette and swags. The inscriptions indicate that Samuel Bethell died in 1766 and his wife Dorothy in 1776.
