Description

The former framework knitters' workshop and attached outbuildings, now part of a museum complex, date from around 1840. This workshop replaced a smaller workshop built around 1829 and was restored around 1970. The workshop is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and features a single red brick stack at the rear. It has two storeys and two bays. The entrance has a plank door set under a segmental arch. To the right, there is a single nine-light glazing bar casement, and above it, a similar fifteen-light casement. The right gable wall includes a doorway with a plank door and a single glazing bar casement to the right, both under segmental arches. Above this is a single 20th-century glazing bar casement.

Attached to the rear left is a single-storey outbuilding made of red brick and pantiles, which has two bays. There is a similar projecting four-bay range attached to another workshop, which is listed separately. The outbuildings feature two doorways with stable doors. The projecting range includes a doorway with a plank door leading to a cesspit, an entrance to two privies and two urinals, and another doorway with a plank door. The single bay on the far left is slightly set back and has a similar doorway and door. The property was purchased in the 19th century by William Parker, a hosier.
