Description

The former framework knitters' workshop, now part of a museum complex in the east block, dates from around 1840 and replaced a smaller workshop built around 1829. It was restored around 1970. The building is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof with two red brick stacks at the rear. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The central doorway has a plank door set under a segmental arch, with a single 9-light glazing bar casement on either side. Above the doorway, there is a single 11-light casement, and to the right, a single 13-light casement. To the left, there is a two-bay lean-to that is set back and has two plank doors. To the right, there is a range of outbuildings connected to another workshop, which is listed separately. The building was purchased in the 19th century by William Parker, a hosier.
