Description

The White House is a 17th and 18th century house with an adjoining barn. The house dates to 1686, with later alterations in the 18th century. It is constructed of whitewashed brick with a pantile roof; a single, central 20th-century red brick stack punctuates the roofline. The house has a shallow plinth and a first-floor band. The lobby entry plan is evident in the arrangement of the front elevation, which is two storeys and six bays wide. The doorway has a 20th-century door and is topped with an oval plaque inscribed "White House." To the right of the door are two 20th-century casement windows, and to the left a single similar window, a smaller 20th-century casement, and a blocked doorway, all set beneath segmental arches. The gable apex is inscribed with the date "1686." A lean-to extension is located at the rear. Attached to the left of the house is an early 18th century barn built of red brick with a pantile roof, and featuring a gable end facing the road and set on a plinth.
