Description

This early 18th-century house and post office, formerly a single farmhouse, was designed by and built for Sir Thomas Parkyns of Bunny Hall. Constructed of painted brick, it has a pantile roof and red brick stacks to the left gable, external right gable, and a single ridge stack. The brick coped gables have kneelers. The building stands on a plinth and features a band below the first floor and a further band above the first-floor openings. It is two storeys high and five bays wide. The left bay has a segmental arched doorway with a partly glazed door and a wood and plain tile gabled hood. The ground floor includes a C20 casement window, a shop window in what was originally a smaller segmental arched opening, and another segmental arched doorway with a partly glazed door and a shop window in a smaller segmental arched opening. The first floor has a C20 tripartite casement, a C20 fixed light window in a smaller segmental arched opening, and a segmental arched casement window. Sir Thomas Parkyns (c.1662-1741), a baronet, carried out improvements and rebuilt much of Bunny to his own designs. The building is included on the list solely for its group value.
