Description
The Grange is a house built in the mid-18th century, with an extension added in 1843. It features whitewashed render, some ashlar stonework, and chamfered painted quoins, along with a painted brick plinth and a slate roof. The building has two large red brick ridge stacks and an ashlar-coped right gable, with a kneeler on the right and a former kneeler on the left gable. A modillion cornice adorns the top of the structure.
The house is two storeys plus an attic and consists of four bays. The main entrance features a part-glazed door with marginal lights and a segmental fanlight that extends over the entire doorway, all set within an elliptical archway. To the right of the entrance are two glazing bar sash windows, while to the left is a single similar sash window, with four additional similar sashes located above. In the attic, there are four hipped slate dormers, each containing a small glazing bar sash.
To the left of the main house is a two-storey, single-bay extension from 1843, which is rendered and sits on a plinth. This extension has a slate roof that is hipped to the left behind a parapet and features a single red brick stack on the right. The projecting single bay includes a tripartite glazing bar sash, with an iron balustrade above and a low glazing bar sash on the first floor. Inside, the house includes chamfered beams and a salt cupboard. The Grange is believed to have originally served as a dower house for the Hall.
