Description

This is a Second World War pillbox built in 1941, part of the airfield defenses for Tollerton Airfield. It is located at grid reference SK62259 36823 and is one of 18 surviving pillboxes around the airfield.

The pillbox is constructed of brick with concrete lintels and features a flat concrete roof. Although described as 'square', its chamfered corners give it an octagonal appearance. There is an entrance on the north side, which is protected by a pentice, and the embrasures face the airfield, featuring stepped concrete surfaces that would have served as bullet stops. The walls are over 1 meter thick.

No internal inspection was conducted due to tree growth blocking access, but suspended Turnbull mounts were visible through some of the embrasures.
