Description
This is a Second World War Type 22 (FW3/22) pillbox built in 1941, which is part of the airfield defences for Tollerton Airfield. It is located at the OS grid reference SK62290 36703 and is one of 18 surviving pillboxes around the edge of the airfield.
The pillbox is constructed of red brick, featuring concrete lintels and a flat concrete roof, and has a hexagonal shape. The exact location of the entrance could not be determined due to a thick hedgerow, but the pillbox has embrasures facing the airfield, each with a stepped brick and concrete surface designed to act as bullet stops.
An internal inspection was not possible because brambles have covered the entire pillbox.
