Description
This is a Second World War Type 22 (FW3/22) pillbox built in 1941, which is part of the airfield defenses for Tollerton Airfield. It is located at the grid reference SK 61862 35859 and is one of 18 surviving pillboxes around the edge of the airfield.
The pillbox is made of red brick with concrete lintels and features a flat concrete roof. It has a hexagonal shape, is partly sunken, and has an entrance on the west side. The embrasures are oriented towards the airfield and each has a stepped concrete surface designed to act as bullet stops. Some bricks have eroded from the exterior, exposing the concrete core of the wall.
An internal inspection was not possible due to waterlogging inside.
