Description

This is a Second World War pillbox built in 1941, part of the airfield defenses for Tollerton Airfield. It is located at the grid reference SK61808 35777 and is one of 18 surviving pillboxes around the airfield.

The pillbox is constructed from brick with concrete lintels and features a flat concrete roof. Although described as 'square', its chamfered corners give it an octagonal appearance. It is situated in a hedgerow to the southwest of the runways, with an entrance on the airfield side that is protected by a pentice. The pillbox has embrasures facing away from the airfield, each with stepped concrete surfaces that would have served as bullet stops. The walls of the structure are over 1 meter thick.

No internal inspection was conducted due to tree growth making access difficult.
