Description

Shackerdale Farmhouse, built around 1800, is a brick farmhouse with late 20th-century pantile roofs. It features a brick plinth, cogged eaves, and coped gables, along with three gable stacks. The building is three storeys high and has three bays, arranged in an L-plan with a continuous rear outshut. The windows are 20th-century casements set in original openings with rubbed brick heads. The front of the farmhouse includes a central 20th-century lean-to wooden porch with a door that has a segmental head and overlight, flanked by single casements. Above this, there are three casements, and above again, three smaller casements. On the south-west side, there is a lean-to porch flanked on the left by a casement, with a similar casement above. The adjoining wash house is a single bay structure with dentillated eaves and a gable stack. Its front features a door with a segmental head and a casement to the right. Inside, there is a dogleg stair with a well, stick balusters, square and turned newels, and a ramped scrolled handrail. The interior also includes two Adam style hob grates from the early 19th century, a fitted cupboard, four 18th-century two-panel doors, and three plank doors.
