Description

The West Gateway, built around 1830 for John Emerton Wescomb, is a gateway made of red brick with ashlar dressings, set on a plinth. It features a moulded Tudor archway with panelled spandrels. On either side, there are single sloping buttresses topped with large gabled finials that are decorated with blind trefoil arched panels. The ashlar coped parapet rises in the center to accommodate an ashlar coat of arms. The west side has a band of dogtooth under the parapet. To the south, there is a red brick wall that adjoins Thrumpton Hall, which is listed as a separate item.
