Description
Nos. 78 and 80 on Main Street is a former single house, now divided into two houses, built in 1779. It is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof with two red brick gable stacks and dentil eaves. The building is two storeys high, plus a garret, and has three bays. The central doorway has an originally panelled door with a segmental arched overlight. On either side of the doorway are single glazing bar sashes with rendered lintels. Above, there are two tripartite glazing bar cross Yorkshire sashes with a single central glazing bar cross casement, all set under segmental arches. The left gable wall is notable for having 22 bricks inscribed with builders' initials and dated 1779, including initials such as A.V., W.J., I.B.J., B.B.J., J.B.J., S.O., J.W., E.P., F.P., L.P., M.P., T.P., S.P., A.J., J.P., W.P., and A.P.
