Description
The former slaughterhouse and cattle stall, located 5 meters northwest of 68A Castlegate in Newark on Trent, dates back to around 1780 and was altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick with a rendered south gable and features pantile roofs, including a main building with a louvred clerestorey and rebated eaves. The structure is single-storey and has a central round-headed close boarded door with plain jambs, accompanied by a window with plank shutters to its right. The north gable includes a blocked opening to the clerestorey and two small breathers below.
To the left, there is a lean-to cattle stall with a doorway featuring reused jambs, and a smaller lean-to addition with an off-centre doorway. The interior is whitewashed, with a brick floor that includes a drain and a tethering ring. The east side has a stable door and an unglazed window. The roof beams are equipped with hooks and hoist blocks, as well as a slatted ice compartment. This building serves as an ancillary structure to the former butcher's shop at 68 Castlegate.
