Description

The Queen's Head Public House is a house that has been converted into a public house, dating from the early 16th century and restored in 1960, with a mid-20th century rear addition. The building features close studded timber framing with arch braces and rendered nogging, supported by a brick underbuild. It has a plain tile roof with sprocketed eaves and jettied upper floors that are supported by curved brackets. The structure is three storeys high and consists of three bays. The windows are from the 20th century and have leaded glazing. The central feature is a canted five-light oriel window, flanked by single three-light casements. Above this, there are three smaller continuous casements arranged in a 3:5:3 light pattern. The central entrance has double doors with an overlight, flanked by single four-light casements. The right gable has two three-light casements on each floor, with the second-floor windows being smaller. The large rear addition is made of brick and has a plain tile roof. Inside, the public house showcases extensive exposed timber framing, much of which has been renewed, along with rough hewn span beams and pole joists. The roof structure consists of a single purlin principal rafter roof with collars and wind braces, as well as arch-braced cambered tie beams.
