Description
7 Chain Lane is a building located in Newark on Trent, originally known as the King's Head public house. It consists of three houses that were later converted into a public house and are now used as a shop. The building dates from the late 18th century and early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century.
The structure is made of colourwashed brick and features hipped and gabled pantile roofs. The main block has a first-floor band and rebated eaves, standing three storeys tall with a five-window range that includes 16-pane and 12-pane segment-headed sashes. Above this, there are two 12-pane sashes on the left and three 6-pane sashes on the right, all of which are segment-headed.
There are two late 20th-century shopfronts, each with a glazed door flanked by single bow windows. The block to the left has dentillated eaves and segment-headed windows, standing two storeys high with a two-window range of 16-pane sashes. Below this, there are two 20th-century glazing bar windows. An addition to the right features a rendered ground floor and dentillated eaves, also standing two storeys tall with a single 12-pane sash, while the ground floor is blank.
