Description

Fern Cottage and Darcy's Cottage are a pair of cottages, dating from the 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension. They are constructed of brick with a pantile roof, brick and stone sills, a brick first-floor band, cogged eaves, and two brick gable stacks. The cottages have two storeys and three windows on the west section (Fern Cottage) and one bay on the east section (Darcy's Cottage).

The west section of Fern Cottage has a central panelled door, flanked to the west by a two-light glazing bar casement and to the east by an early 19th-century two-light Yorkshire sash window, all with segmental heads. Above these, there is a central blank panel, flanked by single two-light glazing bar casements. Darcy's Cottage has an off-centre early 19th-century panelled door and a two-light Yorkshire sash window, both with segmental heads. Above the door is a two-light glazing bar casement. The east gable has an off-centre early 19th-century door and, to the north, a single early 19th-century shop window. Above the shop window is a single early 19th-century fixed light. The cottages are included on the list for group value.
