Description
Trent Bridge is a road bridge built in 1775 by Stephen Wright. It was widened at deck level, and footways and railings were added in 1848. The bridge is constructed of brick with an ashlar facing and features cast iron railings and lamps. It has string courses and seven graduated semicircular arches with multiple keystones, with the central arches corniced. There are pilasters between the arches, and the cast iron railings include a central pedestal that bears the Town Arms and is topped with a lamp. The rectangular ashlar end piers have blank shield panels and are also topped with lamps. This bridge is located on the site of a 12th-century bridge.
