Description
Kneesall War Memorial is a war memorial unveiled in 1920, dedicated to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. It is made of rough-hewn limestone and features a Celtic cross on a tapered plinth with a single step. The front (south) side of the plinth has an inscription that reads: 1914 – 1918 / RIP / (NAMES) / MAKE THEM TO BE NUMBERED / WITH THY SAINTS / IN GLORY EVERLASTING. The west side of the plinth is carved in low relief with the words: TO THE MEMORY / OF THE MEN WHO / DIED IN THE WAR / 1939 – 1945 / (NAMES). There are over 30 names inscribed on the north side of the plinth, although they are not legible due to weathering. The memorial is located within the churchyard of the Church of St Bartholomew, which is listed at Grade I, and is situated next to the A616.
