Description
The stables, built around 1780 to 1790, are likely designed by John Carr of York. They are constructed of red brick and feature a hipped slate roof with an ashlar sill band. The north side of the building has five bays and is 1½ storeys high, flanked by single-storey bays. The central three bays slightly project and are topped with a pediment that has an ashlar cornice. Above the central double doors, there is a decorative panel and a traceried fanlight. On either side of the doors are arched glazing bar sashes and a square-headed glazing bar sash. Above these, there are five glazing bar sashes. The outer bays contain a single casement window on the east side and a fixed window on the west side. The south facade features a central panelled door with a plain surround and brackets that support a pediment, with two glazing bar sashes on either side, and a band running beneath them. The first floor has a central clock set into a blocked-in window, with two glazing bar sashes on either side. There is also a single-storey brick and slate extension to the west, which has two small casement windows.
