Description
The building consists of a barn at High Farm House and an adjoining stable and barn to the east. The threshing barns date from the mid-18th century and late 18th century, while the stable is from the 19th century. They are constructed of brick with steeply pitched pantile roofs, featuring a partial brick plinth, cogged and plain eaves, and two coped gables with kneelers.
The eastern barn, dating from the mid-18th century, has three bays and features a pair of central barn doors on the south side, flanked to the right by two diamond breathers. Above these doors are three similar breathers. To the left, there is an adjoining 19th-century cartshed. The east gable includes a square pitch hole and three breathers above.
The western barn, built in the late 18th century, also has three bays and features a pair of central barn doors with stone imposts on the north side. There are two 20th-century buttresses to the right, along with three cross breathers and six similar breathers above. The west gable has twelve cross breathers and a Manchester Fire Insurance plaque. The south side contains a blocked barn doorway with an inserted 19th-century stable door, three cross breathers to the left, and six similar breathers above.
Inside, there is a half-height loft at each end, and the roof is supported by principal rafters with tenoned purlins, primarily made from re-used timber. To the east, the adjoining 19th-century stable is two storeys high and consists of a single bay. The north side has a blocked casement to the left and a stable door to the right, with two small lights above. The south side features a stable door with a segmental head to the left.
