Description

Hall Croft is a house that was formerly an inn, built between 1630 and 1650. It features a timber frame with brick cladding and a pantile roof. The building has a single gable, with roof and rear wall stacks, the latter being external. It stands two storeys high and has two bays, with an original rear outshut that was raised in the 19th century, creating a double depth plan.

The south front has two plain sash windows with segmental heads, and above them are two Yorkshire sashes with timber lintels. The east gable has a 20th-century door on the left and two casement windows on the right, all with segmental heads. The rear elevation features a glazing bar sash with a segmental head on the left and a 20th-century plastic porch and door on the right. Above, there are two Yorkshire sashes and a casement to the right.

Inside, the building has a pair of bay posts, a single straight brace, and three chamfered span beams with stops. There is a stud wall and an important early 18th-century winder stair with square newels, a deep moulded handrail, and vase and stem balusters. The landing has a simpler handrail and splat balusters, one of which is wavy. The principal rafter roof has mainly been renewed in the 20th century, and the roof space contains a stud partition. There are also two 18th-century panelled doors with H-L hinges.

Adjoining the main building are 19th-century outbuildings made of brick with a pantile roof, which are single storey and consist of four bays with a single ridge stack. The east side of these outbuildings has, on the left, a Yorkshire sash flanked by single close boarded and plank doors. To the right, there is another Yorkshire sash and a close boarded door, followed by an opening and a garage door.
