Description

Island Farmhouse is a late 18th-century brick farmhouse situated on Main Street, Egmanton. It is a two-story building with a garret, originally three bays wide, and has an L-shaped plan with later additions. The construction incorporates a brick plinth, a band marking the first floor, dentillated eaves, and two gable stacks and one ridge stack. The roof is covered with 20th-century pantiles. The north front has a central timber doorcase with carved brackets supporting an entablature and a dentillated pedimented hood containing a dummy fanlight. The original 18th-century recessed panelled door is partly glazed. Flanking the door are single sash windows. Above the door, a smaller sash window is flanked by single sashes; all front sashes have segmental brick heads. The west side features a door flanked by single sashes to the left, and then two sashes, one with a square head, followed by a 20th-century casement, all with segmental brick heads. Above this level, a casement with a segmental brick head is positioned to the left. The east gable has a sash with a segmental brick head to the left, and a Yorkshire sash with a segmental brick head in the garret. The south end of the building has a 20th-century door flanked to the left by a 20th-century casement and to the right by a small sash window.
