Description

North Muskham Prebend and attached boundary wall and Kirkland House is a former prebendal house located on Church Street, built around 1810 for the Falkner family. It now serves as solicitors' offices, with an attached boundary wall and a rear wing that is currently a house. The building is constructed of brick with a slate roof and stone dressings, featuring two storeys and a five-window range in an L-plan layout. Architectural details include chamfered eaves, coped gables, and two gable stacks along with a single ridge stack. The rear wing has a single gable and two ridge stacks. The windows are glazing bar sashes with brick flat arches, and there is a half round window in the pediment. The entrance features a gabled Gothick porch with fluted iron columns, a moulded eared doorcase, a pediment, and an overlight, flanked by two sash windows.

Inside, the building has an open well stair with a moulded handrail and vase and stem balusters. The hallway and ground floor rooms are adorned with moulded cornices and six-panel doors. The rear wing, now known as Kirkland House, includes an early 18th-century range on the right, which was raised in the late 18th century. This section has two storeys plus attics, with a single window range that is offset to the left. It features a single segment-headed glazing bar sash, a box dormer above with a similar flat-headed sash, and a larger glazing bar sash below with a wooden lintel, alongside a fielded panelled door. To the left, there is a taller early 19th-century range with three storeys and two windows, featuring segment-headed openings and glazing bar sashes. A six-panel door is located to the right, flanked by single small sashes. The exterior includes a brick boundary wall with stone coping, wrought iron skeleton posts, and a spearhead gate. This building is one of the nine remaining prebendal houses formerly associated with Southwell Minster.
