Description
The Army Stores is a house located on High Street in Mansfield Woodhouse, dating from the mid-18th century with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble and features a Welsh slate roof that has a lower pitch at the rear. The building stands three storeys tall and has two bays. The windows are plain sashes. The front of the building has an off-centre recessed door with a pilaster to the left. To the left of the door is a shop window with a pilaster and curved fascia brackets, while to the right is a 20th-century shop window with a pilaster. Above the door, there are two sashes with keystoned segmental heads, and above those, there are two more sashes. The east gable features a 19th-century mullioned casement to the left, with two doors in chamfered stone surrounds to its right. Above these doors, there is a wooden cross casement to the left and a 18th-century chamfered mullioned casement to the right. The building is known as the Wolf Hunt House and is reputed to have been the home of the wolfcatcher from Sherwood Forest.
