Description

Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared rubble and dressed stone, with a glazed pantile roof and stone slate verges. The farmhouse has deep eaves and two ridge stacks and four gable stacks, one of which is external. It is two storeys plus garrets, and three bays wide by four bays deep. The windows are mostly glazing bar sashes. The east front has a range of adjoining lower outbuildings to the left. The ground floor of the east front features a central 20th-century French window, flanked to the left by a 20th-century casement and to the right by three sashes. Above, a smaller sash is located to the right. The north front includes a sash in the return angle, and to its right, a door with a rockfaced architrave and overlight. The north gable has a central Yorkshire sash to the garret. The west front has a single-bay, 19th-century addition to the right. The left side of the west front includes a blocked window and door, next to three sashes. Above, there’s a casement flanked by single Yorkshire sashes, followed by two sashes. The south end features two gables, one coped. A single-storey, single-bay addition with a coped gable and kneelers is to the right, while a casement and a door with an overlight are to the left. Above is a 20th-century casement. The outbuildings and additions include a 20th-century lean-to porch and door with a segmental head to the west, a small casement, a garage door, and an adjoining boundary wall. The adjoining stable is not of special interest. The interior contains a late 18th-century Adam style fireplace which was originally from Nettleworth Manor, an early 19th-century hob grate with foliate panels, a mid-19th-century register grate with a Classical surround, and a mid-18th-century dogleg staircase with a landing, a ramped handrail, turned newels, and stick balusters. Outside, to the north and east, is a dressed stone boundary wall with half-round coping, approximately 110 metres long, and an elaborate late 19th-century cast iron gate.
