Description

A barn, cottage, and outbuilding at Moorfield Farm, dating to the early 17th century, with later 18th and 19th-century additions. The buildings are constructed of coursed squared rubble and brick, with pantile and corrugated sheet roofs, and ashlar dressings. A single ridge stack is present. The layout is an L-shape, spanning 5 bays wide by 4 bays deep. The windows are mainly casements, some with flush mullions. The west side features 20th-century corrugated iron and brick additions, along with a pair of barn doors with an inserted overlight, and two breathers. Above are six breathers. The cottage section to the right has two casements on the ground floor, one with a chamfered reveal, and three casements above, one being small. The south end has an off-centre door with an overlight, flanked by single casements, and an adjoining outbuilding with a hatch with a segmental head above it. The north gable has a pair of 20th-century barn doors, a door with a flanking light above, and various breathers. The outbuilding includes three doors to the north, while the cottage has a Yorkshire sash window, a door, and a window above on its north side. The east side features a gable with a casement, a door and two casements on the cottage, and two 20th-century barn additions and altered openings. The barn’s principal rafter roof has double purlins, wind braces, and a ridge piece, along with collars and struts to the purlins. A stud partition sits to the south, and a 19th-century loft is located to the north. The barn interior also contains a stud partition and a 19th-century loft. The cottage has four-span beams, two with ogee stops, a winder stair, a stud partition, and a principal rafter roof similar to the barn. It includes a 19th-century corner register grate.
