Description
The Old Parsonage is a house, now used as offices, that dates from the mid 17th century, with alterations made in the mid and late 19th century and late 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with brick gables, ashlar dressings, and a steeply pitched plain tile roof featuring two brick gable stacks. The rear wing has a pantile roof and a single ridge stack. The building has two storeys plus attics and a four-window range, which includes two pairs of stone flush-mullioned cross casements with projecting surrounds. Above these, there are two late 19th-century gabled dormers with two-light casements. The entrance, located off-centre, features a late 20th-century glazed double door with an overlight, flanked on the left by two 12-pane sash windows and on the right by a similar sash window, all with projecting surrounds. The rear wing has a three-light Yorkshire sash window on the left and a five-light casement with stone flush mullions on the right, although the centre light is blocked. Below this, on the left, there is a stone doorcase and a plain casement, while on the right, there is a stone mullioned five-light casement, also with the centre light blocked. Historically, in 1666, the house was occupied by Robert Porter, and it served as a meeting place for the Unitarian community.
