Description
5 and 7 Stockwell Gate are two houses that have been converted into shops. They were built around 1770 and have undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The buildings are made of coursed squared stone, which is painted, and feature stone dressings along with a steep pitched slate roof that has two brick gable stacks and a single coped gable. There is a Norwich Union fire insurance plaque on the first floor. The structure has three storeys plus garrets and a four-window range of plain sash windows, with four smaller similar sashes above. All the windows have projecting surrounds. On the ground floor, there are two late 20th-century shop fronts with tiled surrounds and plastic fascias. Each gable has a small garret window, with the one on the right featuring a four-pane sash.
