Description
The Town Mill Public House, originally a water mill built around 1775, has been restored and converted in the late 20th century. It features coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and a plain tile roof, which is topped with a hipped square ventilator. The building is two storeys high with attics and has a ten-window range of top-hung glazing bar casements, with the second window being blank. Above, there are four gabled dormers with similar windows, the leftmost being smaller.
On the ground floor, to the left, there is a seven-bay elliptical-arched arcade supported by square piers and imposts. The left arch contains louvred panels, while the second arch has an infill panel. The remaining five arches feature glazed infill panels with transoms, and the central arch includes a doorway. To the right of the arcade, there are three top-hung casements. The right gable has a single top-hung casement and, beyond that, single blanks, with three additional blanks above. There is a blocked door to the left and a 20th-century double door to the right.
Attached to the left corner of the building is a length of stone boundary wall with half-round coping and a pointed-arched gateway set under a square gable. At the rear of the building, there are two blanks to the left, followed by two top-hung casements, and to the right, three similar casements. Below, to the left, there is a tailrace opening with five square stone shafts set diagonally, each with square capitals, and to the left, there is a blocked brick segmental arch.
