Description

This is a house, now used as shops, dating to the late 16th century with significant alterations in the mid-18th century, and further changes in the 19th and late 20th centuries. The construction is of coursed squared rubble, with the front painted and partly rendered, and includes brick and stone dressings and slate roofs topped with three brick gable stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a two-window arrangement featuring 3-light casement windows with wooden mullions and stone surrounds. A painted sundial, dated 1763 and inscribed "R B S 1763", is situated below the windows. The rendered ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front with three large windows, a glazed door, and a fascia. A lower rear wing features a jettied first floor supported by stone corbels and a brick-coped gable. An off-centre 19th-century door is present on the rear wing, above which is irregular window placement with plain sashes and casements. Group Value: The building contributes to the group value of the area.
